Orchid IV is of my series of glass compositions that utilize polished or non-painted bronze orca whale forms. One of the goals I set out for myself in this series was to really play with color. Finished sculptures in my studio are always subject to being changed. After this picture was taken, I did a new patina on the metal parts. I feel that the piece is stronger with the new color. The copper support form is now gun blue, and the whales are silvery grey. The abstract idea of combining orca whales and orchid flowers together is the basis for the title.
