Pre-dawn Quail

1996 by Ross Matteson   bronze    8 x 3 x 3 inches   edition size 35

Pre-dawn Quail  is a well known "early bird," depicted just prior to it's early rising. When quail are in danger, they sometimes freeze into this kind of compact form and position.   I think of this interpretation as a slightly more restful bird.   Bronze as a material, facilitates such wonderful qualities being expressed. The softness, delicacy, strength and permanency reflected to a degree in this form, might translate very differently in another material.
